Both Colin and I have signed up for activity challenges so that we stay active this summer. Colin is working to cycle/run/walk the length of the road from Cairo to the Great Pyramids (75 km) and I am doing the virtual Cabot Trail (299 km).
Today was stinking hot, but I got out for a run. Then Colin and I went for a bike ride – thankfully a cool front came along just as we were headed out and we had a refreshing breeze.
Colin is nearly halfway through his challenge, and I am 17% complete. For the Nova Scotians reading along, that means I am 7 km from Breton Cove, after starting in Baddeck.

On our final morning in San Antonio we visited the botanical garden. It was a lovely space, and happened to have a Frida Kahlo exhibit on, too.

It was a very hot morning at the Alamo and on our river barge tour, so we spent some time at the hotel pool in the afternoon. Cliff had a healthy lunch.

We walked around the Alamo grounds this morning and learned a fair bit about Texas history. Cliff took some photos on his “real” camera, so I just took a couple of snaps on my phone.
Here we are in front of the church that was never actually a church.

We went to the natural bridge caverns and enjoyed some great cave tours, as well as a huge climbing/ropes course, which Colin loved.

We went out on the Colorado river in Austin this morning. It was a lovely morning for it! Birding highlight of the day was a black-crowned night heron. It made up for the dozens of great-tailed grackles.

There are 1.5 million bars that live under the Congress St bridge in Austin. Some night they all come out from under the bridge in a big cloud of bats and head up the river to eat bugs.
Last night, because it’s still maternity season, we saw quite a few bats, but no big cloud. We waited until after sunset just to be sure, but no luck. It was a nice night to sit outside, at least!

While Laura is at camp, we are taking a little TX road trip with Colin. He was thrilled to have a new magazine to read en route to Austin.

After much anticipation, Laura’s farewell at camp lasted about 30 seconds. She is so thrilled to be there, and we hope that her three weeks are as wonderful as she expects.
At least she grudgingly posed for a photo!
