Hello! Day 5 was really busy. We got up at 8, as usual, and had breakfast at the hotel. I got a bacon and cheese omelet, and dad got a Full English Breakfast. After we were done, we went out to the Chicago Field Museum, meeting with one of Dad’s friends and her kids. We started at the gems exhibit, and then went to meteorites. After that, we went to the DNA section for a little while before going to a prehistoric fossil timeline! It tracked from the really early beginning of life in the ocean with simple lifeforms, and ended on the evolution of modern humans. It was really detailed, and included eras not normally mentioned by most museums I’ve been to, like the early human period, and the Cambrian Period, which is my favorite. It has a bunch of really weird sea life, like the Anomalocaris, a very strange creature which was the apex predator of that time period, please look it up since I don’t know how to describe it; Trilobites, which are the ancestors of the horseshoe crab; the Hallucigenia, a worm-like thing with long spindly legs and spikes on its back; and the opabinia, a really funny creature with 5 eyes, a worm like body, and a mouth on the end of a trunk on its face. Also in the Evolution section was Sue, the most complete and best-preserved T. Rex fossil ever found. After that, we went downstairs to the café for lunch and then went to an exhibit about the creatures that live in soil. Once we were done, Dad’s friend and her kids left and we went to an exhibit comparing the fossils of Pokémon to the fossils they were based on. It was really cool, since the Pokémon “fossils” were created at accurate size to their size in-game. We got an exclusive, really cute Pikachu plush from the gift shop and left at about 4. We went back to the car and hung around for a while before walking to a sandwich shop for supper. After that, we went to a live recording of Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me! It was really funny and went on for over 2 hours because of the retakes that the people had to do. Afterwards, we walked bac to our car and drove to the hotel for the night. That’s all for today. Bye!
