Selfie with a map

my meetings in London finished early on Friday, so a colleague and I popped down to the Geological Society to see William Smith’s geological map of Britain – the first geological map ever made.

For an artifact like that you’d think they might spring for non-reflective glass, but they probably don’t actually get that many visitors.

National Night out

Tuesday was National Night Out. A nation wide initiative to encourage people to get out of the house and visit with the their neighbors.

One of our neighbor hood friends organized and we were happy to attend. The cul-de-sac was taken over by people visiting and kids of all ages. There was even a police car that stopped by and allowed the kids to push buttons and climb around. It was a later bedtime but the kids had fun.

Traffic

You haven’t seen a traffic jam until you’ve seen a traffic jam in a developing nation:

Why, yes, that car IS perpendicular to us.  Yes, he intended to be that way.

Notice that billboard on the left?  It was an hour from the time this photo was taken to the time we were even with that billboard.
