Day 29 of our road trip

hello for the 30th time. yes, 30th, I started with day 0.5, remember? anyway. on day 29, we packed up from the cabin, and had a five-hour drive to St. john’s, which is another town in Newfoundland. not really anything at all happened that was notable on the drive here. once we arrived, we dropped off the trailer at Pippy Park, a campsite and camper park, we visited Frannie, a family friend. her parents are really nice, and she is about as old as Laura. I like to hang out with her, but normally it’s just her and Laura talking as we all play a board game. when we arrived, we all hung out together for a while, then went and played Jenga for a bit. while we were playing, Daddy called us to the kitchen to choose what we wanted for supper, since we were ordering from Swiss Chalet. Swiss Chalet is a really good resturaunt, that serves mostly rottisserie chicken, but also ribs, and other fast food-like food with a special Chalet Sauce. there’s not really anywhere in the US I can compare it to. it is a chain restuant, but it’s only in Canada. if, for any reason whatsoever, you are in Canada, and also happen to be nearby a Swiss Chalet, I highly recommend that you swap one of your dinners for a meal from Swis Chalet. after we had selected our food, Daddy went to get it, and we kept playing Jenga. after a while, Daddy came back, and we had supper. durng supper, the adults shared various funny stories while the kids tried to figure out everything in them. after supper, me, Frannie, and Laura played a round of Trouble, which i randomly won by rolling a 1 while exactly one away from the end. afterwards, Laura, Frannie, and the adults all talked for a while, while i went and read some Star Wars books in Frannie’s room. once it was time to go, Frannie let me borrow some of the books and then we had to go. that’s all for now. Bye! -Colin

Day 28 of our road trip

Hello. Day 28 of our road trip was not hugely eventful, but I’ll write about it anyway. it started a bit differently, since we were at the cabin and in the trailer. it was very strange trying to figure out where i was when I woke up. once I had dressed, we packed up the trailer and drove to Charley and Shelby’s house. it wasn’t a long drive, but took a while. once we arrived at their house, we did the usual things that we did anyway. after a while of that, they got in their pool and i didn’t want to go in too. I find their warm to be my cold. I guess I’m just a bit used to warmer water. i stayed inside for a little while, and their mom let me try their SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) remake. they also have an NES, which came first (Nintendo Entertainment System), but I wanted to try the SNES more. I played a game called Yoshi’s Island, where your character is a Yoshi who is carrying baby Mario to Kamek’s castle in order to get baby Luigi back. Yoshi is a Mario character who first appeared in Super Mario World as a character who Mario saves from an egg and can then ride. Yoshi has a large tongue that can eat enemies, and in Yoshi’s Island he can turn them into eggs and throw the eggs. Yoshi. is technically a dinosaur, and his scientific name (please don’t ask why I know this) is T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas. Yoshi’s island is really fun and surprisingly challenging, for a game where you play as a young dinosaur who can jump on air for a short time. Yoshi has changed from an enemy-eating mount to an adorably powerful dinosaur. I have now written a whole paragraph about Yoshi. I like Yoshi a lot. moving on with the day, once they came back inside, me, Laura, and Daddy had to go to the cabin again. we came a bit earlier this time. Grandpa had come with us, and after we had supper, he left again. Daddy had gone to drop off Grandpa, and he had told me and Laura to go and start a fire. we have an oven nearby the water, and down a path to the beach. we went down and found some driftwood and twigs for kindling. once we had it started, I went up to the cabin and found some bubble mixture `and a bubble wand. i found out that bubbles can bounce if they land on salt water and don’t end up landing right next to a rock or something. I really enjoyed blowing a whole bunch of bubbles and seeing them catching the wind and bouncing really far down the beach. once we had finished off a few s’mores, which cooked really, REALLY quickly over the smokestack of the oven, we went back up to the trailer and went to bed. it took me a while to go to sleep because the mosquitos had bitten me all over my legs. once i did go to sleep, which took me really long, the day was over. that’s all for now, so bye. -Colin

day 27 of our road trip

Hello once again! I am feeling very nice about writing about yesterday. yesterday was very nice. I woke up and had a little breakfast, then went up to the house to play with Charley and Shelby! we played together on their iPads, which was really fun, and then we went outside to play on their trampoline. we played a game of Marco Polo. Marco Polo is a game where one person is the tagger and has their eyes closed, and then when the tagger yells “Marco” everyone else has to say “Polo”. it’s very simple but easiest to do in a flat and possibly enclosed area. after that, we had a small lunch and then we played a short splash fight using the water. shooters that Charlie and Shelby have. after we got bored of that, we just sat and talked in their inflatable pool. after we dried off and had some homemade pizza, we did some drawing together beforeplaying on their iPads some more. after that, me and daddy and Laura drove down to the cabin before bed. the cabin is a cabin on the water that my grandfather owns, although it’s used more by us. we hooked up the trailer, and went to bed. there’s not anything lef to say, and I don’t have any pictures, so… that’s all for now. bye! -Colin

day 26 of our road trip

Hello! day 26 of our road trip felt very long, but it was great! we started off at a campsite nearby-ish to the ferry. I actually made a mistake in my last post, saying that i had already arrived at Charlie and Shelby’s house, but I actually only got there yesterday! sorry. I was very tired when I finished the post, so I wasn’t paying attention. once we got going yesterday, we got in the car and drove across Newfoundland. the drive was extremely scenic, even though we were taking the short route! the drive was amazing, and we finished an audiobook of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which is a hilarious book. we made it to Charlie and Shelby’s house after 5 hours of amazing scenery and fun audiobooks. I hung out with Charlie and Shelby afterwards, and that was… pretty much the whole day. very eventful, but the events were so stretched out that it was fun. there’s not much else to say. Bye! -Colin

Day 25 of our road trip

Hello! Day 25 of our road trip saw us getting to Newfoundland. We woke up earlier than we would have slept in, but it was fine because we had to get packed. We packed up everything into our camper as usual. However, we also packed two small bags full of stuff for the ferry trip there. We weren’t driving, because Newfoundland is an island. It’s a fairly large one, but it still isn’t close enough to shore to take a road. Actually, let me rephrase that. there is no road. Newfoundland is not connected to the mainland of Canada by a physical bridge. Instead, there is a ferry that crosses that stretch of sea. Officially, the ferry is part of the trans-Canada Highway, and therefore is very well kept. All of the facilities are really good. Actually, most of the facilities throughout Canada are much nicer than the ones in the USA. It’s mainly because most of the campgrounds are much nicer and I really like them. Before I give information about the trip, here are some facts about Newfoundland! 1.) Newfoundland, combined with Labrador, is one of the provinces of Canada. 2.) yes, the Labrador Retriever is named after Newfoundland and Labrador. 3.) there is a type of dog called the Newfoundland Dog that looks very cute and possesses a similar skillset as the Labrador Retriever. 4.) thanks to an even smaller island off of Newfoundland, the second closest country to Canada is France. Yes, that says France. The island is legally part of France. 5.) one of the songs from the band Buddy Wasisname and the Other Fellers (yes it’s real) is called “Song For Newfoundland”, and you should really listen to it. 6.) I was born in Newfoundland! I am coming home for the summer! It was really nice to come back home, especially when it isn’t freezing and snowy. The boat to get here was nice. It was a very fancy boat, by my standards, so I really liked it. The trip felt very smooth and wasn’t very bumpy at all. The engine occasionally made the ship vibrate, and one time, while I was watching a movie, the ship started vibrating right as a huge door started to open in my movie. It was an unintentional but amazing special effect. The rest of the boat was very big, and there were a few places where food was available. While we were exploring the boat, we found a deck where there were some other people all looking for something in the water. When we asked, they said there was a pod of whales that we were passing. After a bit, we figured out there were quite a few dolphin pods, and one or two whale pods. once we went back inside, there wasn’t a huge amount of time left in the trip, so we started to do what we wanted to do. once we landed, we got back in our car and drove down to my cousins Charlie and Shelby’s house. there was some amazing scenery on the drive, and it was beautiful. that’s all for now. Bye! -Colin

day 24 of our road trip.

hello. day 24 of our road trip was nice. we started off in the last AirBnB for the last day of vacation in the Halifax area. the day began nicely. we really just began with waking up, and then once we had breakfast we started packing. once we finished packing, which happened very close to lunch. Laura and Daddy had gon out to gte the trailer, and by this point they were back. the day wasn’t very eventful. we left the AirBnB and then went to a glass shop to see what they were doing today. this is the same glass shop I mentioned before, in an earlier post, so I think you can remember what the shop was like. if you don’t, go check. it’s in day 5. Laura was amazed at the things that were in the store, since she was sailing the first time we went. afterwards, we went to a nearby bakery called White Sails for lunch. White Sails is amazing. they have very good desserts. after that, we went to the airport to drop off Mummy. Mummy will be joining us again later in the trip. once we finished dropping off Mummy, it wasn’t a very eventful trip to where we are now. I’m writing this in the trailer, and I’m tired right now. I don’t feel like typing much more at the moment, so I guess that’s all for now. bye. -Colin

day 23 of our road trip

Hi. sorry I’m posting late again. I’m getting caught up in other stuff and can’t get the blog done and posted every day. I’m going to try harder and do better. I think that sounded and looked way better in my head than on paper. anyway. day 23 of our road trip was very eventful. it was the last full day we were spending in Nova Scotia. we started the day with a beautiful sunrise and a great sunny day, for the first time since we arrived here. well, maybe not the first time, but definiteley the best day we’ve had. after we had breakfast, Grandmother and Grampy had to go. it was sad but also fun helping them pack up. they left, and the day was almost halfway through. once we had lunch, me and Laura went for a hunt for more Pokemon. I’ve been putting “we looked for Pokemon” on a lot of the posts, but I like it a lot. when we came back, Daddy was back from dropping off my grandparets at the airport, so me and Daddy went swimming in the bay behind our house! it was really cool because the top 3-ish feet of the water was nice and warm, and then below that there was an abrupt, but not terrible, drop in the water tempurature. we stayed out for a while and then we realized that my friend Jordan (I mentioned them in day 10- their name is Jordan) was coming over soon. we dried off and changed, and I was trying to get some of my blog for the day before done. I got three sentences in before they came over. once Jordan arrived, I completeley forgot about doing my blog. I brought them downstairs, and we ended up playing games on each others’ phones. after an hour-ish of that, we had a campfire. the day was almoat over, so me and Jordan played a short game of tag, and then they had to go. that’s all that happned two days ago so that’s all for now. right? Nope! I have a question for you. can you please try to find typos in my last posts? and if you find them, can you please put them into the comments? thanks! that’s (really) all for now. Bye! -Colin

Day 22 of our road trip

Hi. sorry I’m posting this late, I got distracted while getting it ready. day 20 of our road trip started off early, since we were going to look at a university for Laura. throughout the trip, we have been making stops at universities because Laura is going to graduate soon. I haven’t talked about them much, as they aren’t as interesting to me. i don’t understand everything that Mummy and Daddy talk about to Laura, so I’m normally just walking with them. however, there were two main things that interested me: 1.) the fact that there were a lot of Poke stops and gyms for my new pokemon game, and 2.) there was a picture of my great great grandfather, who was one of the first presidents of the university. I have a picture of me with the picture of my great great grandfather. on the way back home, we stopped for lunch in an interesting resturant that is a building next to a vineyard. there was also a real phone box in the middle of the field. I had a short debate with myself over whether or not to accept Daddy’s question of “do you want to call someone?” and the side of me that said no was eventually overpowering the side that said yes. I wanted to, but i also wanted to go home. when we got home, not much notable happened after we got home. I guess that’s all for now. bye! -Colin

day 21 of our road trip

hello once again! today will (probably) be a shorter post than yesterday. yesterday, the day started a bit less normally, but only a teeny tiny bit, as i was more tired than usual. I had not gotten a good sleep the last night, so I was having trouble getting up. once we got going, I had a great day. once we had breakfast, Mummy and daddy went house unting (they are considering buying nearby), and me, Laura, Grandmother, and Grampy were staying home. Me, Laura, and Grandmother went on a long walk for trying to find Pokemon. we found some interesting things, although i still didn’t have as many as some other days. when we got back from that, we did some more free time, and by then Mummy and Daddy had gotten back, so we went to the Farmers’ market that was nearby. at the farmers’ market we saw some very interesting things. we had quite a bit of fun trying to decide which souveniers we wanted! I got a necklace with a piece of sea glass. the sea glass actually makes for a really good fidget if I’m restless. when we left, we got ice cream from a nearby place, which was awesome, and then we got back home. at home, we worked on a puzzle and then shelled some eas for supper. Daddy was cooking up some scallops and salmon for supper, and Grampy was getting the other veggies ready.the salmon was delicious, and so were the scallops. i asked the others about the scallops as i don’t like shellfish or mollusks. once we were done, not much happened after that. that’s all for now, so… Bye! -Colin

day… 20?! wow!

Hello! it’s kind of hard to believe that we have been on the road for 20 days, this being my 21st post (I started with day 0.5 before we left), so I’m really happy! I’ll do a small recap to show what we have seen before. we have passed through: Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachussets, New Hampshire, Maine, then on into Canada with New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. quite a lot of “new” places! 5, if you count! can you find them all on the list? you only found four? Haha! Nova Scotia means “NEW Scotland” in French! cool, right? anyway. some of the tourist stops we’ve been to are: various spots in D.C. (see those posts for details), The Edge, some On-Broadway theaters, and the World’s Largest Axe. between us all, we’ve finished who knows how many books, andd I’ve played video games for a very, very long time. this has been a wonderful trip, and I will continue to post for as long as this trip continues! anyhow… on to yesterday! the day started regularly, (as usual) and the day was off! the first notable thing that happened yesterday was that we finished the 1,000 piece puzzle that we started a 2 days ago. we are flying through these puzzles! the puzzle was a picture of Australia with a fancy decorative border. after that, I played around a bit with my games and puzzles then we had lunch. after lunch, me and Daddy went on a very long hunt for Pokemon on my app. the hunt was cool because we got to the closest Poke stop nearby, but we weren’t finding much around. our luck evened out quickly though, as there were many new Pokemon around as we went back home. the reason i said “evened out” instead of “improved” is because the rain started about 1/3 of the way home. once we got home, we introduced Grandmother and Grampy to the game Wingspan. Wingspan is a very complicated game, and this post is already getting long, so I won’t keep going. after a while, and a supper break before we finished, Daddy came in first with 117 points. Grampy and I came in second with 108, Laura and Grandmother got 3rd with 104, and Mummy unfortunateley came in last with 92. the game was fun, but at that point the day was over. after that, we had dessert, got ready for bed, and ended the day wonderfully. that’s all for this post, so goodbye. Farewell until the next post! -Colin
