Day 4 of our road trip

Hi! Day 4 of our road trip is the first day we’ve been spending not on the road. we’ve stopped at a campground in Maryland that is very close to Washington D.C. we visited a whole bunch of places there today! First, we took the train to D.C., and then we went down to see the White House. we only saw it from a distance, and didn’t go inside. after that, we went to check out the many memorials around there. We are doing the Smithsonian museums on Monday, and we didn’t go there today. there are a lot of memorials in D.C., and we saw (I’m guessing) most of them today. we saw the Washingington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the World War 2 Memorial, the Vietnam memorial, the Martin Luther King jr. memorial, the Korea memorial, and we saw but didn’t go to the Jefferson memorial. we also saw the Capitol building, but didn’t go in. this is a long list of things, and i think if I described all of them, this would be a very very very long post, so I’ll stop now. See you again tomorrow! -Colin

Day 3 of our road trip.

Hello again. Day 3 of our road trip has been a bit uneventful. Today we passed through Tennessee, Virginia, and are finishing up in Maryland. we’ll stay in Maryland for a few days while we visit Washington D.C. Today has been nice, but not exciting. Laura got me a new book called Strangeworlds Travel Agency, and it is really good. I definitely recommend it. We have kept listening to our Aru Shah audiobook, and it has also been really good. I have had to clarify names and such for my dad. the main interesting thing today has been that there was a wild cat (not a wildcat!) in the parking lot of a Macdonalds we stopped at for lunch. The scenery around us while we’re nearby the Eastern side of the Appalachian mountains is amazing! the hills are giant, and the rock walls in between some of them look like they’re not correctly oriented, no matter which direction I imagine them to be! I don’t have much else to talk about right now, so Bye! -Colin

Day 2 of our road trip

Hello! Day 2 has been a bit more eventful than yesterday. We have left Mississippi and have gone through Alabama, a tiny bit of Georgia, and we will finish, and are currently in, Tennessee. I have been doing the same thing as yesterday, and I have finished 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea! the ending was a bit confusing, but it was good. On the road, it was raining very heavily while we were in Alabama, but it’s cleared up now. We have started to listen to an audiobook of Aru Shah and the End of Time. It’s my dad’s first time listening, and I, since I have read every book, so it is very funny seeing my dad’s reaction to parts I know end up a certain way. I’m getting tired now, so I’m going to end this here. please check out my photos from the trip below. Until my next post, bye! -Colin

Day 1 of our road trip! whoo-hoo!

Hello! The first day of our road trip has been good. we have gone through Texas, Louisiuana, and are now in Mississippi. We passed through the easternmost point of Texas. We have been listening to an audiobook of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and I have been laying my new LEGO video game and reading 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, by Jules Verne. It’s a great novel, and it’s also about 153 years old! We saw some very interesting things on the way here but didn’t make any notable stops. Although, there was a random statue of corn. I don’t know why it was there. We are now in Hattiesberg for the night. It was very rainy after we set up, though it is now subsided and a nice quiet night. I can’t think of anything else to say right now. Bye for now! -Colin

Day 0.5 of our road trip!

Today is the day before we leave to our road trip (hence the”day 0.5″ in the title). We’re finishing our packing, we’ve got our trailer, and we’ve been getting the last things done before we go. Tomorrow we will be starting off, but today we are finishing the getting ready. I feel like I’m just repeating myself, but that’s because there’s nothing really special happening today. I’m getting bored now. I’m going to go and finish packing. Thanks for reading my first post. Byeeeeeeeeeee! -Colin

After dinner

With Cliff out of town and Laura at dance class, Colin and I went for an after dinner walk. We spent some time watching a heron hunt for his dinner.

It’s the time of year that we have swarms of gnats all over the neighbourhood. Tonight there were hundreds of large dragonflies feasting on them. As you might imagine, it is not easy to get a photo of flying insects from an iPhone, but this gives you some idea.
